Monitor Setup Changes with Setup Audit Trail
These notes were taken while studying using Salesforce's free self-learning portal, Trailhead. Specific content taken from this Salesforce help article as it existed in September, 2022.
- Setup Audit Trail tracks the most recent setup changes made by you and other admins
- Especially useful when there are multiple admins
- To access, Setup > Quick Find > “View Setup Audit Trail” > View Setup Audit Trail
- Possible to download org’s complete setup history for the past 180 days - click Download
- After 180 days, setup entity records are deleted
- History shows: 20 most recent setup changes, including:
- Date of change
- Who made it
- What the change was
- The following categories of administrative changes are tracked. For a comprehensive list, see the help article
- Administration: users, portal users, roles, permission sets, profiles, etc
- Profiles: permissions changed, profile page layout change, record type added or removed for profile, tab set visibility modified, etc
- Permission Sets/Groups: permission set/group created, cloned or deleted, permission set/group assigned or removed for a user, etc
- Customization: page layouts, compact layouts, app navigation menu changes, custom fields and field level security, formulas, picklist values, activity settings, tab names, custom buttons and links, validation rules, etc
- Security and Sharing: public groups, sharing rules, org-wide sharing, password resets, how many records a user permanently deleved from Recycle Bine and Org Recycle Bin, etc
- Data Management: using mass delete, data export requests, reporting snapshots, use of data import wizard, etc
- Development: apex classes and triggers, visualforce pages, custom components, and static resources, lightning components, lightning pages, action link templates, custom settings, etc
- Various Setups: process automation settings, approval processes, flows, etc
- Using the application: customer portal or partner portal users, enabling or disabling, etc
